What to do in The Buff this summer

The Buff is a great place to be in the summer. There are tons of activities that are sponsored locally by the city/town/village and there are also the activities that are sponsored nationally. With this list you won't be able to say there is nothing to do this summer. At the bottom there is an additional resources list that will help you further plan your calender with festivals and such.

Artpark
has a Tuesday in the Park series sponsered this year by First Niagara. Every Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 you can find a FREE concert starting June 9th with Reverend Horton Heat and ends August 25th with Peter Frampton. Check out the rest of the line up HERE. While the concerts are FREE the parking is $10.

Artpark also has Wednesdays in the Gorge series. Every Wednesday from July 15th thru August 26th you can find even more FREE concerts. Go take a look at the line up HERE. Again, the concerts are FREE but the parking is $10.

**Update** reader Kashann has this great tip for FREE parking at ArtPark:
Don't pay to park at Art park! You pull in just before the parking down the hill and it is free and less walking then the pay to park spot... I love art park. It is gorgeous and they have a great time for kids during and before the show.

Thanks for that great tip Kashann!

Regal Cinemas has a Free Family Film Festival where they offer FREE family movies every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10AM. This is 18th year offering this fabulous summer activity. The movies are G and PG rated. The theatres for the Buffalo area are: TH201 Walden Galleria Stadium 16 in Buffalo, Niagara Falls Stadium 12 in Niagara Falls, Quaker Cr. Stadium 18 in Orchard Park, and Transit Center Stadium 18 & IMAX in Williamsville. See full details of this great event and all theatres participating at RegMovies.com.

Thanks to Beth at IN Good "Cents" for this fabulous information!

AMF (bowling lanes) has 2 great offers.
  • The Kids Bowl Free program is a great way to spend your time this summer. Your kids, 15 and under, can bowl 2 games EVERY DAY for FREE (shoe rental is NOT included) from May 4th to September 6th. All you have to do is go to the Kids Bowl Free website and register your children. There is an additional pass you can purchase for $25 that will allow up to 4 adults the same offer. There are several participating locations in our area.
  • If you sign up for AMF's eClub they will send you a coupon for up to 10 people one game of bowling for FREE (shoes not included).
Previously I blogged about Thursday in the Square's FREE concert series HERE.

I also previously blogged about Yoga on the Square HERE.

Previous posts that are helpful and on the same topic:
If you have a birthday this summer check out my Birthday Fun Post for free activities and food ideas.
You never know when you might get rained on so my Winter Blues Post might give you some ideas for indoor play and fun.
On going activities that are available in The Buff are posted HERE.

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!!!
Tell us, what's your favorite thing, activity or summer event is, in The Buff of course.

Other Resources:
The Buffalo News has put together a great list of Summer Festivals. Check it out HERE and mark your calenders for the events you plan on attending.

Another great resource for helping to plan your summer and calender is the WNY Family Magazine. You can pick the magazine up for free at your local library and Wegmans and other places, or you can access the full magazine online HERE.

WGRZ Channel 2 always has a good list of things to do on their website, What 2 Do.

Home Depot has many different FREE clinics for all adults, women and kids.

Lowes also has FREE clinics for adults and kids.

Toys R Us frequently has FREE kid events with freebies for you kids to take home. Sign up for their email updates to find out about them. From my experience they do not advertise them on their websites but through emails to their customers.

There is a plethora of blogs out there that list other nationally sponsored events from restaurant and activities too. I've linked to some in my many posts and I also have a lot of their buttons on the side. You may also have a different favorite blog that lists these!

Stockpile Pictures

OK, as promised, here are pictures of the supplies I've been able to get. Most of this was FREE and what wasn't free was dirt cheap.

There is food too but the food side of my storage is a mess and I need to organize it before I show the world :).The bag hanging on the right is full of candy and gum. The bag on the left is full of medicine (high were the kids can't reach :). Top shelf: household cleaning supplies, candles and toothpaste.
Second shelf from top: body wash, mouthwash, men's shave gel, women's shave gel, shampoo and other hair products. Third shelf from top: diaper wipes, feminin products, hand soap, shampoo, dish soap and kleenex. Bottom shelf: toilet paper, feminin products, trash bags and paper towels.

Diapers - think we have enough? The top shelf they are stacked 2 deep. The lower shelf they are just 1 package deep.

Two bags FULL of travel size things, deodorant and other small things that don't sit well on the shelf.

Freebies to get you started...

In response to your comments I thought I would post some things that are FREE after coupons to get you started.
NOTE: All the coupons posted are Internet Printable (IP) coupons so you should all be able to get them. A word about IPs, you do not have to print them with color or on your 'best print' setting...a 'quick print' setting is fine. All IPs can be printed at least twice (with a very few exceptions) once you print the first time hit your back button and it will print it out again. Don't print until your printer is ready, if the computer even thinks you printed it, it won't let you print it again. Coping IPs is considered Coupon Fraud and is punnishable by law so DON'T DO IT.

NOW..... Ready? Here we go.

Evercare Lint Rollers (travel size) are $.97 cents at Walmart. Use the $1/1 coupon from Coupons.com to get them FREE.

Wet Ones (travel size) are $.97 cents at Walmart. Use the $1/1 coupon from WetOnes.com.

Kraft BBQ Sauce is $.98 at Walmart and $.99 at Target (at least the one on Walden). Use the $1/1 coupon from Coupons.com. Last week it was 10/$10 at Tops so it might still be on sale there too, it's not in this weeks ad but that doesn't mean anything.

Hershey's Bliss chocolate individual candy bars are $.99 at Target. Use the $1/1 Target store coupon from HERE. You can find these up front at the check out lanes. (Target is THE BEST place to get super cheap snack stuff. They have store coupons and you can use a manufacture coupon along with their coupons. I've gotten so many snack items for ... drum roll please... 4 CENTS!!! +tax of course)

Kotex Pads (super small package 14ct-ish) are $1.00 at Walmart. Use the $1/1 from HERE for Internet Explorer or HERE for Firefox users.

Coppertone Sunscreen trial size are $.99 at Target and $.97 at Walmart (various types such as water babies or sport etc). Use $1/1 from HERE for IE and HERE for Firefox users.

**Dry Idea deodorant has been $2 at Target for several weeks now, I haven't checked it this week but it should still be $2 (or you can check at Walmart). Use the $2/1 coupon from Coupons.com.** Haven't checked the price yet this week.

Banana Boat sunscreen 2oz size (a little bigger than the 1oz trial size) is $1.97 at Walmart (up by the registers). Use the $2/1 coupon from BananaBoat.com.** I haven't verified the price yet, there are reports of $1.97 and $2.92, so it may or may not be free... yet.

**Dial trial size is $.99 at Walgreens. Use $1/1 from Coupons.com.

**Cottonelle 4 pack toilet paper is $1 at Walmart. Use $1/1 from Cottonelle.com all you have to do is create a simple pledge and follow the instructions. My pledge was so silly, "I will wipe my behind" any pledge will do.** I have yet to find this but it's reported to be in several Walmarts, I still have a few more Wally Worlds to check out though so I might find it.

**Bar S Hot Dogs (small package) on sale this week at Walmart for $.50. Buy 2 of them and use the $1.00 off 2 ($1/2) coupon found Coupons.com and Bar-S.com. Hit your back button to print it twice from both locations.** Haven't verified the price yet. There are reports of $.88 too, let's hope ours is $.50!

NO Coupon needed...
Posture D Calcium is $8.99 at Walgreens this week. When you purchase it you will get $8.99 back on a coupon called Register Rewards. This is store credit that you can turn around and use on something else. (Go over to Couponing 101 for Stephanie's great explanation on how this works or ask me about it.)

Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste is $2.99 at CVS this week. When you purchase it you will get $2 back in ECBs (Extra Care Bucks) for your next purchase (limit 1). Use the $1/1 coupon from Colgate.com to make this FREE. To read more about shopping at CVS and how it works go on over the Couponing 101 for Stephanie's explanation.

Speed Stick Pro deodorant 2.7oz is $3.99 at CVS this week. When you purchase it you will get $3.99 back in ECBs for your next purchase (limit 2). Hint: use your $2.99 ECB from the Colgate Total Advanced Toothpaste (above) to pay for this and you will only have to pay $1.00 out of pocket.

So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and grab your FREE stuff in The Buff.

**Items with the ** are ones that I have not verified are available in our area. Prices vary around the country and so do sales. As soon as I can verify them I will change the posting.

Pennies In My Pocket

I've been seriously couponing for 2 months now and although it takes time to get organized and to go and shop I've found that I can come home with bags full of stuff and only pay with the change in my purse. It's true, I promise!

Example: Last week I bought 46 packages of diapers at Walgreens and I only paid tax on them! How? Well, there was another deal where I could buy a Diabetes monitor which was free after using a coupon, no tax in NY on Diabetes monitors, then the store had (still has) a promotion where if you buy that product (Bayer Breeze2 Blood Glucose Monitor) they will give you back $5 off your next purchase. I took all those $5 store credit coupons and used them to buy my diapers. So here's how it worked, I paid nothing for the monitor, got $5 back and used it to buy 2 packages of diapers that were $2.50 a pack. Yes, I've bought A LOT of monitors in the past month to be able to do this. All these coupons were available in the Sunday papers and I also bought extras from couponsthingsbydede.com. (there are other websites where you can purchase Sunday paper coupons too).

Another example: Today I bought several containers of Target hand soap that cost $.09+tax after a target coupon! You know I stocked up! I also picked up lots of FREE Kraft BBQ sauce and FREE McCormick marinades, FREE Kotex, FREE Lint Rollers, FREE Wet Ones, FREE hand sanitizer, FREE Axe Shower Gel and even FREE Hershey's Bliss candy bars. I only paid tax on all these items. Wouldn't you prefer to only pay tax on the things you use? I would and that's why when these deals come around I stock up.

It takes a month or two to build your stockpile and then be able to only buy health and beauty items and household items when they are either free or super cheap.

If you are just starting out I would HIGHLY recommend starting with either Walgreens or CVS. Every week they offer 1-4 items for free (after store credit - ECBs for CVS and Register Rewards for Walgreens). If you want to get started and don't know how, let me know and I can help you. Health and Beauty and also Household items have the highest dollar off coupons and if you can get them for free or cheap it will free up a lot of money for other things in your budget. Several weeks ago I was able to stock up on Nivea Bodywash from Walgreens - all FREE+tax. Now we don't need to buy body soap for months...or until another great deal comes around.

If you plan carefully and get organized you can grow your stockpile in no time and shop only once or twice a week.

Let me know if you have any questions or need some help! I'd love to take a companion with me on my outings :)

I'll post a picture of my 2 month old stock pile tomorrow.

Diapers.Com Deal/Steal

If you haven't already done this...DO IT!
If you don't buy diapers but you know someone who does, PLEASE give them this info!

Diaper deal!

Okay, for all of you parents out there using diapers, I found a pretty good deal online for you, especially if you are into Luvs, Huggies, or Pampers. If you have never used Diapers.com, then this is the deal for you. Here are a couple scenarios:
One example of the great deals:
Huggies Snug and Dry Diapers Extra Large Case, Size 4, 150 diapers $38.99
Huggies Snug and Dry Diaper - Jumbo Pack, Size 4, 34 diapers $10.99
= $49.98
- $10 off $49 code (type the code SRVY7855)
+ Free Shipping (for orders over $49)
= $39.98 shipped
- $14.97 refund for Parenting Magazine
= $25.01 after rebate divided by 184 diapers ~ $.14 per diaper

I actually ordered the size 1 and I'm got 284 diapers for that price which makes them $0.09 a diaper! And, you don't have to rush the crowds at your favorite diaper purchasing place!
Just so you know, any name-brand diaper that you can get around .15 cents a diaper is a killer deal, and of course, the smaller the size, the better the deal! Oh yeah, and you get them in 2 business days! It's a one-time deal, here's the link to the mail-in-rebate: http://www.diapers.com/helpcenter/parenting.htm . So, you will front around 38.00-42.00 at first, but then send in the rebate and in 6-8 weeks you'll be reimbursed 14.97. (this rebate takes 6-8 weeks to be processed)

Additionally you can get $0.75 rebate on each package of diapers you buy through this website:
